Granting Emergency Financial Powers To Armed Forces Welcome Step To Fight COVID-19

In a move which will add muscle to India’s fight against COVID-19, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today granted granted emergency financial powers to Armed Forces to augment their efforts in the battle against COVID-19.

With these powers in place, they will be able to establish and operate hospitals, quarantine facilities, and undertake COVID-19 specific equipment procurement bypassing usual clearance processes.

Corps Commanders/Area Commanders have been granted powers upto ₹ 50 lakh per case and Division Commanders/Sub Area Commanders and equivalents have been delegated powers upto ₹ 20 lakh per case via this move.

With the Armed Forces now being roped in to fight the second wave, India – which has been struggling for oxygen, beds and medicines – will definitely see a silver lining.
