The fruitful discussion among ministers of the Quad – India, Australia, Japan and the US – on Thursday reinforces India’s positive agenda and shared commitment to global good as aptly conveyed by external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar.
With the Quad talking threadbare on areas of mutual concern wit the aim of maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the message to China is loud and clear – that the days of China’s unilateral dominance and hegemony are over.
The Quad signals crystallization of a new global order with India firmly in the pilot’s seat. With the Quad leaders highlighting their shared attributes as political democracies, market economies and pluralistic societies, they also recognized that the changes underway in the world makes a strong case for their countries working closely together.
It is therefore in the interest of the international community to ensure that the direction remains positive for the larger global good.
