A recently surfaced 11-second video has gone viral, purportedly showing members of the Afghan cricket team chanting Vande Mataram.
The Facebook post reads: “Vande mataram….. Afghanistani players is So excited…#cricket #afghanistan #indiancricket.”

Newsmobile fact-checked the claim, and found it to be altered.
Searching with keywords for “Afghanistan Cricket Team” and “Vande Mataram” on Google, the NM team could not find any credible reports related to this incident. However, observing the post carefully, we discovered that the chants of Vande Mataram did not sync with the players’ lip movements.
Additionally, a YouTube video by Crickon, dated October 23, 2023, shows the Afghan players chanting “Allah-hu Akbar” in the dressing room after defeating Pakistan. This video, identical to the viral clip, contradicts the claim of chanting “Vande Mataram”.
Moreover, examining the social media profiles of the Afghan cricketer Mohammad Nabi, it was found that he had shared the viral video on his Instagram account in October 2023. In the video, the cricketers were, indeed, chanting “Allah-hu Akbar”.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the viral video depicting the Afghan cricket team chanting Vande Mataram has been digitally manipulated.
