NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found the claims to be fake.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team identified a YouTube Shorts video, dated June 11, 2024, on the official channel of Duroflex — an Indian mattress brand. In the video, Kohli’s statue matches with the viral posts, suggesting that it has been created using CGI.
Searching further, we came across the same video on their official X and Instagram handles as well. On both platforms, it has been clarified that the videos are made of CGI.
We could not find any other credible news source confirming any such idol at Times Square. Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show Virat Kohli’s statue in the middle of Times Square, is false.
