FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the claim, and found it to be misleading.
Conducting a Reverse Image Search of the viral photo, the NM team identified an article in the Arabic media outlet, Akhbarelyom, dated April 22, 2023, with a title: “A scene that makes the heart cry… the father of a Turkish girl who was a victim of the earthquake leaves Eid clothes on her grave.” According to the report, the picture depicts a Turkish man who bought an Eid dress for his daughter, who died in a devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey.
Another Arabic media outlet, Al Khaleej, has also carried the same report. Neither of the reports specified the exact location where the images were taken.
However, we found a report in The Guardian detailing the earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6, 2023, with a magnitude that resulted in over 40,000 deaths.
Lastly, the image was also found on the Instagram handle of a Turkish journalist with the username Nevzat Çiçek, who posted the same dress on April 22, 2023, along with a heartfelt note.
Hence, it is evident that the viral image is old and unrelated to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
