Fact Check: Video Of Woman Falling Into Sinkhole Is NOT From Gujarat Or Ayodhya, BUT Brazil,

Date:

A video showing a woman falling into a sinkhole is being widely shared on social media. The blurry footage depicts the road collapsed as the woman was walking, and fell into a water-filled hole. Bystanders quickly rushed to her aid and helped her out of the sinkhole. Many  social media users have shared the video, claiming this is the poor condition of roads in Gujarat.

The caption accompanying these posts reads: This is Gujarat’s video. Keep in mind the Gujarat model before walking on the road.

Others have shared the video, suggesting it shows a woman falling into a sinkhole on the newly constructed Rampath in Ayodhya.

The caption to these posts reads, “Here is the Rampath road built in #Ayodhya, after the first rain. Its length is 13 km. The total cost is ₹844 crore, i.e., about ₹65 crore per km. The company that built the road is from #Gujarat, under the able guidance of Dronacharya Narendra Modi. Its name is Bhuvan Infracom Private Limited.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim, and found it to be false.

Performing a Reverse Image Search using viral video keyframes, the NM team identified a YouTube video on a Portugal channel, UOL, titled: “Woman Falls into Open Crater on Sidewalk in CE; Look,” dated June 3, 2022.

The video description reads: “Security cameras on a street in the city of Cascavel, in Ceará, captured the moment when a crater opened in the ground, causing a woman passing by to fall into the water-filled hole. The incident occurred on Thursday morning (2). According to the city council, the woman is doing well.”

The same video report was also found on other YouTube channels since 2022, including Jornal da Record and CATVE.

Other media reports from the Portuguese news outlet ISTOE, dated June 3, 2022, confirm that the incident occurred in Cascavel, Fortaleza, Brazil. The woman seen in the video falling into the crater was identified as Maria Rosalene Almeida de Souza, aged 48. In an interview, she mentioned that she did not notice the cone marking the location.

Hence, we can conclusively say that the viral video showing a woman falling into a water-filled sinkhole on a road is neither from Ayodhya nor Gujarat, BUT from Cascavel in Brazil.
