Fact Check: Viral Clip Showing Men Making Obscene Gestures Is From Amravati In Maharashtra, NOT UP

Following the declaration of the Lok Sabha election results on June 4, where the Samajwadi Party emerged victorious in Uttar Pradesh, a video has surfaced purportedly depicting a group of individuals celebrating their win and making disrespectful gestures. The video alleges that in the aftermath of SP’s victory in Western UP, individuals from the Muslim community are deliberately passing by Rajput households.

The video is shared with a caption: पश्चिमी यूपी में जीत के बाद मुस्लिम लोग राजपूतो के घरो के आगे जाकर उनकी मां बहन की गालियां देकर अश्लील इशारे कर रहे हैं [English translation: After winning in Western UP, Muslim individuals are going in front of Rajput homes and making offensive gestures, insulting their mothers and sisters]

NewsMobile fact-checked the video, and found it to be false.

Closely examining the viral video, the NM team noticed a signboard in the background of the men engaging in inappropriate behaviour. The signboard identifies the location as “AmbaNagari, Rajkamal Chowk.” Utilising geolocation techniques, we confirmed that this signboard was from Amravati, Maharashtra.

Multiple verified social media users on X platform have shared the same video, correctly attributing it to Amravati, Maharashtra. As per their description, the incident occurred in Amaravati, and referred to the individuals involved as supporters of the INDI Alliance, causing disturbances in Maharashtra.
