FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim and found it to be misleading.

Upon conducting a reverse search on the image, we found a Facebook post by Chambal Sandesh featuring the same news report, originally dated September 26, 2017.

According to the post, the report, published by the Chambal Sandesh newspaper, raised concerns about discrepancies in smart meters installed by Kota Electric Distribution Limited (KEDL), a subsidiary of the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC), in homes in Kota, Rajasthan. The report alleged that a test comparing a smart metre to a traditional metre over a 10-day period on the same electric line revealed that the smart metre registered 150 units more than the conventional metre.

We also found a report by Patrika News dated September 26, 2017. According to the report, residents of Kota alleged that the smart metres installed by Kota Electric Distribution Limited (KEDL) were running faster than the standard electric meters, leading to higher electricity readings.

Thus, it is evident that the report showing allegations raised by Kota residents concerning smart metres is old. Therefore, the viral claim is False.
