A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being widely shared on social media, claiming that he said ‘Hamara Muh kaala’ while discussing India’s pace of development under the BJP government over the last 10 years.

The clip was also shared by the Congress leader, Supriya Shrinate, with a caption: हमने पिछले दस साल में जो स्पीड पकड़ी है, हमारा ‘मुँह काला’!!!???? नरेंद्र मोदी (English version: See below.👇)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim, and found it to be Misleading.

Running the viral video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team detected an extended version of PM Modi’s speech, posted on Sansad TV’s YouTube channel on July 2, 2024. The video, titled “Lok Sabha Live: PM Modi’s reply to Motion of Thanks on President’s address in Lok Sabha,” features PM Modi’s remarks starting at the 45:30 minute mark. In his speech, PM Modi stated:

“Today, India’s ambitions are vast. Over the past 10 years, India has reached a stage where we must compete with ourselves, surpassing our previous achievements. Our development journey must progress to the next level. The heights of development India has attained in the last decade have set a benchmark. The pace we’ve achieved in the past 10 years means that our competition, (and then stumbles) our Mukkala, our ‘Muqabla’ (competition) is now to elevate that pace even further. I believe we will meet the nation’s aspirations with the same vigour.”

The excerpt clearly shows that the PM initially mispronounced ‘Muqabla’ as ‘Mukala’, but quickly corrected himself. The viral video is an edited version that intentionally ends to create the impression that PM Modi said Mukala.

Therefore, it is evident that the viral video has been clipped and shared out of context.
