A picture of an elderly runner is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim that she is Diane Friedman, who has broken several Olympic records in age-based athletics events. And she is the oldest-ever participant.
A Facebook user posted the viral post (archive link) with the following caption:
এনার নাম Diane Friedman। বয়স ১০৩ বছর। ৭০ বছর বয়সে তিনি সিদ্ধান্ত নেন দৌড়বিদ হওয়ার। এমন সিদ্ধান্তের কথা শুনে তখন তার বন্ধুরা তাকে খুব উপহাস করেছিল। সবাই বলেছিল, “এটা দৌঁড়ের বয়স নয়। এ বয়সে দৌড়তে গেলে হাত-পা খুলে পড়ে যাবে।” বাস্তবিকই ৭০ বছর দৌড়ানোর বয়স নয়; এ বয়সে বেশিরভাগ মানুষই পরপারে পাড়ি দেয়। আর তা না দিলেও বাড়িতে বসে অবসরকালীন দিনগুলো কাটানোর সময়। কিন্তু Diane কারো উপহাসে মনযোগ দিতেন না। তিনি দৌঁড়াতেই থাকেন। অবশেষে তিনি অলিম্পিকে বয়সভিত্তিক (১০০-১০৪) কয়েকটি রেকর্ড ভাঙেন। 100 meters – 36.71 seconds. 200 meters – 1 minute and 29.78 seconds.

If Diane had created any such record at the Olympics, it would have made headlines immediately, yet we could not find any such news online. However, we found an article on a website named, Age Is No Barrier.
The article, published in 2021, discusses Diane and how she became an Internet sensation after her story went viral on social media. She was 100 when the article was written. The article introduces her coach and good friend Dr Bruce, and informs about all the sports she participates. But nowhere it is mentioned that she has broken the records in Olympics. Nor is it written that she is going to participate in the 2024 Olympics.
Another article in Growing Bolder, dated August 24, 2021, informs that Diane Friedman broke three master sports records at the Michigan Senior Olympics on August 15, 2021, and was officially the fastest woman in the world over 100 years old. Friedman broke world records in both the 100-metre dash and 200-metre dash for the 100-104-year-old age group. She also broke the American record for the javelin in the same age category.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the post, claiming Diane Friedman is going to participate in the 2024 Olympics, is viral with false narrative.
