An image showing black smoke rising after a large explosion is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that it is related to the recent attacks between Israel and Lebanon.

Running a Reverse Image Search, the NM team found the same image on several news websites. An article on Al Jazeera’s website, dated November 12, 2023, states that the image shows “Black smoke rising from an Israeli airstrike on the outskirts of Aita al-Shaab, a village bordering Israel in southern Lebanon”.
The image was also found on The Guardian’s website in a November 2023 article, informing that this is the aftermath of an Israeli attack on the Lebanese village of Aita al-Shaab. Photo credit — Associated Press (AP).
The same photo was found on AP News’ website, dated November 4, 2023, confirming it depicts an Israeli attack on Lebanon.
Recent reports indicate that Israel had targeted several Hezbollah bases in southern Lebanon, with the Israeli military stating that their fighter jets attacked Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in the village of Houla, southern Lebanon, where many terrorists were active.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that the 2023 image has been falsely linked to the ongoing Israel-Lebanon attack.
