The X report by ANI reads: “A portion of an underconstruction bridge collapses in Gujarat’s Palanpur.”

According to a report by The Economic Times, a tragic accident occurred in which a person was killed after a portion of an underconstruction bridge collapsed in Palanpur, Gujarat. The incident was reported near the RTO circle area. Varun Baranval, Collector of Banaskantha-Palanpur, mentioned to ANI that the bridge possibly collapsed due to a mechanical failure.

The same incident was also reported on the YouTube channel of India Today, dated October 23, 2023.

Morbi Bridge Collapse: The collapse of a bridge in October 2022, which killed 135 people

According to a report on NDTV, the British-era suspension bridge on the Machchhu River in Morbi town collapsed on October 30, 2022, resulting in the death of 135 individuals, including several women and children, and injuring 56 others.

The suspension bridge, known as “Julto Pul,” which translates to “hanging bridge,” was inaugurated in 1879 during British rule under the reign of Sir Waghji Ravaji of Morbi town. This historical context clarifies that the bridge, where the tragic incident resulting in 135 deaths occurred, was not constructed under the BJP Government.

Hence, it is evident that the viral video does not depict the bridge collapse in Morbi, which killed 135 people. Instead, it shows the collapse of an underconstruction bridge in Palanpur, which resulted in two fatalities in October 2023.
