Following the conclusion of the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a video clip, featuring News 24 anchor Manak Gupta reporting that JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar allegedly breaking ties with NDA alliance, is extensively circulating on social media. In the clip, the anchor quotes Nitish Kumar as saying: “All the party members wanted to leave the NDA alliance. Hence, I am breaking the coalition with BJP.”

Running the viral video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team spotted a video report on the News 24 YouTube channel, dated August 9, 2022. Upon closely analysing the original video, we found the viral clip at the 1:15 minute mark in the video, titled: Rashtra ki baat | Nitish Kumar ने BJP का साथ क्यों छोड़ा? | Manak Gupta | News24 LIVE.
The same report can be seen on Aaj Tak, India Today and The Economic Times, dated August 9, 2022.
It was discovered that the viral clip dates back to August 2022, when Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation as Bihar CM to Governor Phagu Chauhan after severing ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), thereby ending the coalition government in the state. The same report had also been covered by Mint and India Today in 2022.
India Today had quoted JD (U) chief Nitish Kumar, saying: “I have resigned. JD(U) has ended its alliance with BJP. All MPs and MLAs wanted to leave the NDA.”
The report further added that after departing Raj Bhavan, Nitish Kumar went directly to meet with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Tejashwi Yadav. The RJD is anticipated to formally declare its support for Kumar, re-establishing their previous alliance.
Lastly, there have been no credible reports indicating that Nitish Kumar has severed ties with NDA.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the 2022 viral clip of JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar breaking ties with NDA has been falsely linked with the 2024 LS elections result.
