In a significant development, the Centre on Saturday removed Subodh Kumar Singh from his position as Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), following recent irregularities in major exams such as NEET and UGC-NET.
The Ministry has assigned Pradeep Singh Kharola the additional responsibility of Director General of the NTA, effective immediately.
The Centre’s decision to remove Subodh Kumar Singh from his role as Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) comes shortly after the government established a committee tasked with recommending improvements for the agency’s operations.
As per the ministry, the committee will look into reforming in the mechanism of the examination process by analysing the end-to-end examination process and suggesting measures to improve the efficiency of the system and to forestall any possible breach.
The committee will also conduct a thorough review of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Protocols of the NTA, and suggest measures to strengthen these procedures/protocols along with monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance at every level. The Committee shall submit its report to the Ministry within two months.
In related developments, the CSIR UGC NET exam, originally set for June 25 to June 27, was postponed on Friday due to “logistical reasons.” Additionally, the NEET-PG exam, was rescheduled late on Saturday.
