Nagpur: Speaking at an event in Nagpur, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the crucial role of elections in a democratic framework while underscoring the importance of maintaining dignity and integrity in the electoral process.
Bhagwat also expressed concerns over the current state of political discourse, where he noted that modern technology was being misused to propagate falsehoods, thereby disrupting societal harmony.
“Elections are an essential process of democracy. Since there are two sides in it there is a contest. Since it is a contest efforts are made to take oneself forward. But there is a dignity to it. Lies should not be used,” Bhagwat stated. Bhagwat lamented that organisations like the RSS had been unfairly targeted and dragged into political mudslinging, where false narratives were propagated using advanced technology.
The RSS chief underscored the necessity of constructive criticism and the role of opposition in a democratic society. “It is called Opposition. It should not be considered an adversary. They are Opposition, revealing one side. Their opinions should also come to light,” he remarked, stressing that the dignity of electoral contests must be upheld to ensure a healthy and functioning democracy.
Bhagwat pointed out that despite numerous positive developments over the past decade under the NDA government, the country still faces significant challenges. “The same government is back to power – NDA. It is right that a lot of positive things have happened in the last 10 years. But it doesn’t mean that we are free of challenges now,” he said.

Bhagwat addressed the situation in Manipur. He emphasized the urgent need for peace in the northeastern state, stating, “Manipur has been waiting for peace for a year. Violence has to be stopped, and it has to be given priority.”
