New Delhi: A major tragedy has been averted by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police on National Highway 44 as a bus travelling from Amarnath to Hoshiarpur, Punjab lost control due to brake failure as per a PTI report.
The bus was carrying 40 pilgrims to Hoshiarpur, Punjab. According to officials, the driver’s brakes failed when they arrived at Nachlana, near Banihal. News agency PTI quoted the Ministry of Defence, Jammu, saying “Indian Army jawans and JK Police acted swiftly to slow down and eventually halt the bus, preventing it from careening into a gorge by placing stones under its tyres”.
40 passengers onboard the bus suffered injuries in an attempt to exit the vehicle. A video on X shows pilgrims jumping out of a moving bus. Among the injured were six men, three women and one child as per a PTI report.

Following a fast response, Army Quick Reaction Teams and ambulances arrived at the Nachalana local medical facility to offer medical assistance and first aid to all injured victims. Commencing on June 29th, the 52-day Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 19th.
