Xiaomi announces flash sales

Date:

New Delhi: The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced that it will hold two flash sales for its premiere devices – the Redmi 1S and Redmi Note 4G – again on January 13. This is now the second time the company is putting up two of its devices on sale on the same day.

The last time Xiaomi did something this, it received a real heart-warming response from customers, as was also revealed by the record sales figures.

As per data disclosed by Xiaomi itself, the last flash sale saw a whopping 50,000 units of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G going out of stock within 5 seconds.

The Redmi 1S smartphone also witnessed something similar as 20,000 units of the device went out of stock within 4 seconds of start of sale, Xiaomi stated.

The second flash sale for the Redmi 1S and Redmi Note 4G scheduled for next Tuesday is expected to witness an equal, if not better response, from customers owing to the tremendous popularity of Xiaomi products in India.

Xiaomi is now accepting registrations for the second separate flash sales exclusively via Flipkart.

As per tradition, only one unit can be availed per registered email ID and consumers will have to register separately in case they want to buy both the devices.

The first flash sale on Tuesday will be for the Redmi Note 4G and will kick off at 2 pm IST. While the second flash sale on Tuesday for the Redmi 1S will start at 5 pm IST. Registrations will further remain opened until midnight on Monday, January 12, 2015.

While the Xiaomi Redmi 1S has been priced at Rs 5,999, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is priced at Rs 9,999.

Xiaomi has a huge market in India. Xiaomi initially imported 10,000 devices a week but soon had to ramp that up to 60,000 to meet demand, India Business Chief Manu Jain said before the sales ban.

However, on December 9, 2014 Delhi High Court granted an ex parte injunction that banned the import and sale of Xiaomi products in India. This injunction was issued in response to a complaint filed by Ericsson in connection with the infringement of its patent licensed under FRAND (Fair, Reasonable and Non Discriminatory Licensing).

This injunction issued by the High Court is applicable till February 5, 2015, the date on which the High Court has summoned both the parties for a formal hearing of the case.

On December 16, The Delhi High Court granted permission to Xiaomi to sell its devices that are running on a Qualcomm based processor till January 8, 2015.
