Water-logging: Cong slams BJP, AAP for the chaos

Date:

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) Congress today slammed the AAPgovernment and BJP-ruled municipal corporations for the chaoscaused due to water-logging in Delhi and claimed that such asituation has not been witnessed in the national capital inthe past seven years. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Maken alsoaccused the AAP government of not completing the work ofdesilting of drains. "Only 30 per cent desilting of drains had been done tillJuly 5. According to norms, the desilting exercise should havebeen completed by May 15. "There has to be 100 per desilting of drains before thearrival of monsoon because even if 5 pc desilting work isleft, the entire exercise would fail as the blocked drainswould allow the rain water to flow back into the streets,"Maken said at a press conference. Hitting out at Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhigovernment, he said "It was very irresponsible on the part ofPWD that out of a total of 317 drains in East Delhi, desiltingof only 35 were done by July 5, while in North Delhi, desilting work was carried out on only 267 drains, out of432". He claimed that when Congress was in power in Delhi, desilting work used to be completed way ahead of monsoonseason. Maken also alleged that both BJP and AAP were playing theblame game to escape from the responsibility. "Delhi being the national capital, gets more funds, shouldhave been the role model for other cities, but Chief MinisterArvind Kejriwal and his ministers are touring Punjab, Goa andGujarat to feather their political nests, ignoring theproblems of Delhi. "BJP and AAP clash and indulge in blame game on each andevery issue for the past one-and-a-half years, ignoring thepressing problems of Delhi," he added. Heavy rains lashed the national capital today, leading toexcessive water-logging on major roads, severely affecting thetraffic movement across the city. PTI GJSSMJ
