‘Waris Punjab De’ Chief Amritpal Singh Arrested From Moga

Moga: Punjab Police arrested fugitive preacher and Sikh separatist leader Amritpal Singh on Sunday according. Punjab Police launched the crackdown against Amritpal Singh and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’ on March 18.

News agency ANI shared a photo of Amritpal shared by official sources.

Amritpal Singh and his associates were booked under several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.

Amritpal has been on the run since March 18, the day Punjab Police launched a massive manhunt for him. The crackdown came almost over three weeks after Amritpal’s supporters stormed Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 23, demanding the release of one of his aides, Lovepreet Toofan.

Lately, Amritpal had emerged as the leading Khalistani voice in Punjab. Khalistan refers to the separate Sikh state that supporters of Khalistan seek to be carved out from India, including Punjab. The Khalistanis waged a bloody insurgency for decades in Punjab that ebbed in 1990s.
