Kochi: Malayalam Actor and Producer Vijay Babu will keep off from the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) in view of the sexual abuse case against him.
According to the official statement of AMMA released by General Secretary Edavela Babu, “Vijay Babu has sent a letter saying that he didn’t want to bring disgrace to the organization of which he is an Executive Committee member amid the allegations leveled against him.”
The statement further added that he would stay away from the association for time being until his innocence is proved. The AMMA has approved his request.
Kerala High Court has refused to consider the anticipatory bail plea of Vijay Babu in connection with the sexual assault case. The bail plea mentioned that the actor who has filed the complaint against Vijay Babu is trying to blackmail him.
A case of sexual assault was registered at the Ernakulam South police station against Vijay Babu. Another case was registered against him for disclosing the identity of the complainant on the social media platform Facebook. The complaint was received on April 22.
According to the complaint, the victim was alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Vijay Babu in a flat in Kochi. She further added that the act was repeated more than once by the accused.
The complaint said that the actor committed the offense of offering a role in a movie.
