UPs domination continues on Cab Secys post

Date:

Lucknow: The appointment of Pradeep Kumar Sinha as the 31st cabinet secretary of the country, is in fact a feather in the cap of Uttar Pradesh as far as the state bureaucracy is concerned, reason being a simple one – he will be the 7th cabinet secretary from UP, out of 9 in the last two decades.

The success story of Uttar Pradesh started in 1994 when the UP cadre IAS officer Surendra Singh was given charge of the top administrative post of the country. After having served for two years, Singh handed over the baton to TSR Subramanian, an upright IAS officer from UP.

He remained in the saddle from August ,1996 to March,1998. He  was followed by another UP cadre officer when Prabhat Kumar was appointed the next Cabinet Secretary from April 1, 1998.

He relinquished the post on October 31,2000 and gave way to T R Prasad, an Andhra Pardesh cadre officer, for a change.

Prasad again gave charge to another UP cadre officer when Kamal Pandey took over on November 1,2002 to remain Cabinet Secretary till June 14,2004. His place was taken by another UP officer B K Chaturvedi who remained in this coveted seat till June 13,2007.

He was replaced by Kerala cadre IAS officer K M Chandrashekhar, one of only two non-UP officers to serve as the Cabinet Secretary during the last two decades. Mr Chandrashekhar spent four years on the post vacating the seat for 1974-batch UP IAS Ajit Seth who after getting several extensions is slated to superannuate on June 13 next.

The 1977-batch IAS officer Mr P K Sinha, who is secretary ,Power at the Centre, has been n several posts in petroleum and shipping ministries, during last about 11 years, he was on central deputation.
