Two men arrested for allegedly extorting money from property

dealers New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) Two men have been arrested forallegedly extorting money from property dealers in southwestDelhi’s Bindapur area claiming to be local AAP MLA’s closeassociates, police said today. "Two property dealers, Deepak Sharma and Rinku Diwan havealleged that Satish and Devinder, who work in AAP MLA GulabSingh’s office and an associate Jagdish, were extorting moneyfrom them by saying that they will get the building from wherethe property dealers were operating demolished," said a seniorpolice officer. Deepak had allegedly been blackmailed into paying thetrio Rs 1.5 lakh a few days back, he said. Today, around 3pm, the trio came to meet Rinku and askedhim for money. They got into an altercation and Satish andJagdish were caught while Devinder managed to flee in theInnova in which the trio had come, said the officer. Police said that a PCR call was made by Deepak and Satishand Jagdish were detained and later arrested after a caseunder section 384 (punishment for extortion) IPC wasregistered, added the officer. Police said a revolver was also found with Jagdish, whoclaims to be an ex-serviceman. Deepak claimed that the Innova vehicle in which the trioarrived and later Devinder escaped belongs to the MLA, theysaid Police is scanning the CCTV footgae to gain clues aboutDevinder and has formed teams to serach for him. The police is also verifying whether there was anyassociation between the MLA and the accused, added theofficer. "We received a PCR call from Deepak regarding theincident. The matter is being investigated and we will takeaction as per law," said Dependra Pathak, joint commissionerof police(southwest). Gulab Singh who is AAP MLA from Matiala and co-inchargeof Gujrat affairs of the party, admitted his association withSatish and Devinder but claimed that his name wasunnecessarily being dragged in the matter. "I know Satish since he worked for me during elction. Hewould sometimes drop in at the party office. I don’t know whatSatish was up to these days. Devinder used to drive my caroccasionally and on the day of the incident, he had droppedoff Satish and Jagdish midway. He was unaware of what thesepeople were upto," said Singh. Calling it a ploy, he said, "In the past, I have beenraising the issue of illegal construction in my constituency.I have written to the ACB and the LG regarding this issue.There could be a ploy to trap me in this matter."
