Transport strike brings Hyderabad and Telengana to a grinding halt

Date:

As the strike called by the Joint Action Committee, consisting of the employees of the Telengana Road Transport Corporation entered its 15th day, life in the state of Telengana and its capital Hyderabad have been brought to a complete stand still.

To add to the woes, drivers affiliated to the radio taxi applications Ola and Uber too have gone on a strike demanding recognition of their companies by the State Government.

Stone pelting has been reported from some parts of the state and TSRTC is plying a few buses with heavy police protection.

The 48000 employees have on strike since October 5th and are demanding a merger of TSRTC with the state government as it is facing heavy financial losses and is unable to pay its employees on time.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had taken a bold decision to dismiss the 48,000 striking employees who have been causing massive inconvenience to the people and directed TSRTC to employ temporary staff and private buses to deal with the situation.

The Telengana High Court had directed the government to engage with the striking employees and find a solution. The CM has refused to heed by the decision.

Tragically, two employees have committed suicide for not being paid their salary due for the month of September.
