Robert Marchand, a 105-year-old man who belongs to France has set a new world record when he cycled 22.547 kilometres in an hour. He completed 92 laps at Velodrome National, a state-of-the-art indoor track outside Paris that hosts elite cycling events.
According to reports, after winning the race Robert said “I am not here to be the champion. I am here to prove that at 105 years old you can still ride a bike.”
He was not cycling for his whole life, he worked as a firefighter, a truck driver and a lumberjack, he considered learning cycling when he was 68-year-old. Since then he managed to ride from Moscow to Paris.
His coach and friend Gerard Mistler told that it needs a lot of hard work and eating fruits and vegetables, not smoking, drinking wine in moderation, exercising daily and going to bed at 9 p.m for becoming a good cyclist.
