The Favourite Jodis of B-Town

Date:

Love has always been an essential part of Hindi cinema and is a trial and tested formula of giving hits on the box office. And talking about love, how can we forget the magical on-screen pairs of Indian cinema. NewsMobile lists down the Bollywood’s Top Seven Most romantic on-screen couples of all times who made love come alive on the silver screen.

Raj Kapoor and Nargis: They were one of the earliest couples who shared a fantabulous onscreen chemistry. They made the black and white era colorful with their romance in the films. Off screen, too, they shared a soul-stirring chemistry. After `Awaara’ (1951), Nargis worked almost exclusively with Raj Kapoor even turning down her mentor Mehboob’s `Aan’ (1952). Both romanced each other in the films like `Aag’, `Barsaat’, `Andaaz’, `Awaara’ and `Shree 420′.

Dharmendra and Hema Malini: The two co-starred in over 40 films which is a sort of record. Hema Malini was much sought after even in real life. Both Jeetendra and Sanjeev Kumar had proposed her for marriage. But it was Dharmendra who won her at the end. Both fell in love on the sets of Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay. Love gives you courage to do wonders, they say. Breaking all the social barriers, Hema and Dharmendra, adopted Islam in 1979 and married each other.

Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha: The angry young man worked with almost every actress of his generation from Sharmila Tagore to Smita Patil but made the best couple with the diva Rekha. After working in a series of films, rumor-mills went rife that they were seeing each other. Yash Chopra’s Silsila was almost a real life representation for the Big B where he had an affair with Rekha and was married to Jaya Bhaduri. Even the song Rang Barse turned out to be quite controversial.  Amitabh’s life saw personal crisis post-Silsila and he faced a lot of turmoil with respect to this liaison. The couple never worked together after that movie.

Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh: Rishi Kapoor broke a million hearts when he ‘khullam-khulla’ declared his love for the beautiful Neetu Singh. One was the chocolate boy of Bollywood, other the most sought after heroine of that time- Love was bound to happen. Their amazing chemistry and blossoming love were always visible in the movies they did together. The magic they created on the silver screen was not just ‘good acting’, it was true love.

Neetu started dating Chintu aka Rishi when she was just 14. He was already a well-established actor and heartthrob of millions by then, while she was just taking baby steps into the industry. The first time they came together on-screen was for the film Zehrila Insaan.

It was not love at first sight for the beautiful pair. Chintu was quite a prankster and loved teasing the young Neetu on sets. He would smear her face with kajal just after she would have completed her make up. But in true filmy style, Neetu fell in love with the guy who she irritated her the most and Rishi too reciprocated her love.

Shahrukh Khan and Kajol: Talk of 90s and the first thing that comes into one’s mind is “Raj and Simran”. There is no denying of fact that Shahrukh Khan and Kajol’s onscreen chemistry is unmatchable even today. The duo has worked together only in six films but none of them disappointed the audience.

Khan and Kajol first paired up together in 1993 for Baazigar which was a thriller. While the film became a blockbuster, it also gave Bollywood its best romantic pair. In 1995, the sizzling jodi returned to silver screen with Karan Arjun and yet again charmed the movie goers. Don’t we all remember the song Jaati hoon main wherein King Khan flirted with his onscreen ladylove in hatkestyle?

After doing just two films together, Shahrukh and his Baazigar co-star were touted as the best couple in Bollywood…of course on 70mm. In the same year came Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dhulaniya Le Jayenge which re-wrote box office history thanks to Shahrukh and Kajol’s crackling chemistry. It became the longest running film in the history of Indian cinema and the biggest blockbuster of that decade. With that SRK-Kajol earned the tag of ‘most loved onscreen couple’ which remains till date.

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif: Khiladi Kumar- one of the most good looking men in Bollywood- has an awesome physique to die for and an incredibly hot personality to flaunt. Even women half his age would love to get smitten by his infectious charm and given a chance, romance him onscreen. While the handsome hunk has been paired opposite almost all the hot divas of bollywood, his chemistry with Katrina Kaif is just awesome.

The both have never disappointed their fans and are widely known to be a hit-giving formulae for the producers and directors. Katrina has Worked with Akshay in ‘Namastey London’, ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’, ‘Tees Maar Khan’, ‘Singh is Kinng’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Blue’ and ‘De Dana Dan’. They are believed to be doing yet another film –‘Singh is Bling’.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone: The one is the latest heart throb of the nation, the other is the most sought-after diva in the B-town. The fans just say wow when the the most eligible bachelor paints his on screen love with his ‘pichkaari’. Both, at one point of time were reportedly dating each other and are known for their amazing chemistry on and off screen. While Ranbir is dating Katrina these days, Deepika seems to be inching closer to the Delhi lad, Ranveer Singh.
