Mumbai: Teesta Setalvad could heave a sigh of relief, ‘interim’ nonetheless, as the Central Bureau of Investigation court in Mumbai granted the activist and her husband Javed Anand interim protection from arrest in a CBI investigation into alleged FCRA violations.
Setalvad had moved the CBI court claiming that she was falsely implicated in an embezzlement case. She was granted interim protection till Tuesday, July 21.
According to the anticipatory bail application, the activities undertaken and the expenses incurred by the Sabrang Communications and Publishing Pvt Ltd were in accordance with the agreement with the Ford Foundation.
“Activities and financial reports were submitted annually to the satisfaction of Ford Foundation,†the application read. Moreover, Setalvad and her husband alleged, the FIR registered by the CBI-EOW had been filed “based on a false and mala fide complaint, solely for the purpose of harassing and torturing†them.
