TDP-BJP divorce in Seemandhra after 11-day honeymoon

Date:

Hyderabad: The 11-day-old alliance between Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and BJP ended in a divorce in Seemandhra. The people of the region have not forgiven the “perpetrators of the split” – that robbed the region of Hyderabad, the city that gave its youths jobs and higher education, and the farmers unlimited water supply.

The BJP that supported the Telangana Bill is now paying the price as the wrath of voters are evenly divided between Congress and BJP. An alliance with BJP in Seemandhra would eclipse Chandrababu Naidu’s political career – he has been in the wilderness for the last 10 years.

Both the parties are facing internal resistance. TDP workers held protests outside Naidu’s residence while the Andhra BJP’s district heads had also submitted a memorandum opposing the alliance.

Naidu’s party has argued that BJP has picked several weak candidates for the Assembly elections being held along with the general elections and that fielding them could affect the prospects of TDP’s Lok Sabha candidates. Much to Naidu’s chagrin BJP said he has no business interfering on seats already allotted to them.
