Tata Trusts, NSDC to conduct study on skill development in J&K

New Delhi, Aug 24 (PTI) As situation remained grim inKashmir Valley, NSDC and Tata Trusts today said they willconduct a study to understand aspirations of youth from thestate and identify challenges and interventions required toimprove job opportunities with corporates. The study will be undertaken by Dalberg Global DevelopmentAdvisors and is aimed at creating a better impact by way ofemployment opportunities, National Skill DevelopmentCorporation (NSDC) said in a statement. The partnership between Tata Trusts, NSDC and Dalberg willidentify the real gaps and give the right direction to bringhigher standards and scale to the skilling initiatives for theyouth from J&K, the statement added. NSDA (National Skill Development Agency) and NSDC ChairmanS Ramadorai said: "We have seen some encouraging results fromthe state of J&K along with the required passion and eagernessof the youth to be a part of the large corporates and MSMEsector in India. "This intervention is a natural extension of our desire toenable a two-way connect between the industry and the state’syouth leading to mutually beneficial outcomes while addressingaspirations." The study would look at the aspirations of the youth andengage with large corporates to explore possibilities ofskilling and hiring them, look at the enabling process for theyouth to get ready for the corporate sector careers andfinalise job roles in line with the aspirations of the youth. NSDC is already working with Ministry of Home Affairs incollaboration with corporates for the Udaan program to provideopportunities to the educated youth of the state inprivate sector. Similarly, under Himayat programme, supported by Ministryof Rural Development, NSDC has helped train and place youthfrom the state for entry level jobs in hospitality, retail,and other professions over the last few years, the statementsaid. "NSDC has evaluated opportunities and is looking atscaling up the programme and revisiting the gaps so that moreyouth from J&K can get better careers and self-employmentopportunities," it said. The youth outreach plan, corporate engagement model,skilling value-chain alignment and a rollout plan would all beaddressed as a part of this critical intervention. PTI RKL RSNABK
