Suspended AAP members protest against party leadership

Date:

Suspended members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday protested at the venue of the party’s National Council meeting in the national capital.

The protesting members raised slogans against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, and said that the party was behaving like a ‘Khap panchayat’.

According to some reports, expelled AAP founding members Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan are leading the protests. Meanwhile, the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released posters criticising Kejriwal for his embrace with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav at the swearing-in ceremony of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Yadav has been convicted in the fodder scam case.

According to some reports, the protesters include founding members of the party who were suspended recently, some only three days before the National Council meeting. On November 19, 40-50 people associated with the party were given marching orders.

It is expected that a decision of the convenor post of the party would be taken in the meeting underway today. Kejriwal’s tenure as AAP convenor ends on November 26. Discussions could also be held on the party’s work in Delhi.
