Dubai: International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday banned West Indian cricketer Sunil Narine from bowling with immediate effect, after his action was found ‘illegal’.
The ICC in its press release said: “Narine’s international suspension will also be recognised and enforced by all National Cricket Federations within domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction.”
However, the release stated that Narine, despite the ban, can continue to bowl in West Indies’ domestic competitions provided that he gets the consent from the board.
The off-spinner was reported for having illegal bowling action during the third ODI game against Sri Lanka at Pallekele cricket stadium on November 9.
The ICC had asked Narine to undergo a bowling test within 14 days saying that he was allowed to bowl once until the result of examination.
Narine, whose action was also reported during an Indian Premier League game this year, was cleared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after giving him a final warning.
This is the first time when he has been reported in an international game.
The test was performed on November 17, at the ICC’s accredited testing centre in Loughborough University.
