Soccer fans set for Messi-merising finals

Date:

So, there, all the month-long action boils down to this. Argentina will lock horns with Germany to take a shot at the coveted silverware, that would make them the world champions. With both the teams bolstered by their respective wins, it’s going to be no surprise if you see some sparks flying on the field when the two meet and greet before the duel begins.

The tight and tactical encounter between The Netherlands and Argentina was an epic affair. And that’s not just because of the way both teams fought to keep each other at bay, but because the defenders stole the show, literally. There were no goals given, no loophole provided for the other to seize. The game was so tight, that eventually, everyone knew it would spill into the penalties. Once it went into that stage, Argentina got the little vent they needed and showed why the Messi-ah’s team was the better one.

When the regular 90 minutes failed to declare a winner, the match dragged on to extra time. Even then when the two teams were at par, there was no other option left, but to let the penalty shoot out deliver the verdict. And deliver it did, loud and clear. With a 4-2 scoreline in the favour of Argentina, the deal was sealed after way too long. Stealing a win in the penultimate chance would have worked as a morale booster for the Argentinians, but then, they have one major issue. They are completely dependent on Messi and if he doesn’t click, the team doesn’t click either.

The Germans, on the other hand would walk in to the field, brimming with confidence of having beaten, oops, butchered the hosts in their own den. Not just did they humiliate them with a 7-1 scoreline, they also foiled the Brazilians’ plans of lifting the World Cup in front of their home crowd. With most of their strikers in form and goals under in their kitties, the Germans would be raring to go. However, the Germans are known to choke in critical situations, already been knocked out twice in the semi-finals by opponents who went on to take the Cup home. This time, however, they’ve broken that jinx.

The finals should be an exciting affair. With the Germans up against the Messi magic, it would be interesting to see the tactics and strategies that the teams employ. One exciting weekend ahead for soccer fans and the curtains come down on one of the most-watched and most-discussed sporting events ever!
