SFI calls off 154 day old agitation in HPU campus

Shimla, Sep 6 (PTI) Students Federation of India (SFI)today called off its 154 day old agitation in Himachal PradeshUniversity (HPU) campus following a written agreement reachedwith the University authorities. The decision to call off the stir was taken at themeeting attended by Vice chancellor A D N Bajpai, Dean ofStudents Welfare Prof Sanjeev Mahajan and chief securityofficer Subhash Chauhan and SFI leaders including the statepresident Vivek Rana, Campus president Naval Thakur andSecretary Vipin Sharma. Vice Chancellor said the SFI agreed to call of theagitation immediately and also assured that it would abide bythe directions of High Court in "letter and spirit". It was agreed that the cases of seven out eight studentleaders, barring Hoshiyar Singh, who were rusticated two yearsago on charges of "indulgence in violence"  for revoking therustication orders would be considered positively on filingself-signed application. University authorities agreed that the suggestions givenby the SFI leaders regarding implementation of RUSA and otherissues would be considered positively and High Court decisionregarding the High Powered committee would be implementedsoon. However, the SFI leaders claimed that it was majorvictory for them that the University was forced to hold talksand agreed to their demands. They said that the SFI would take out a Victory Marchtomorrow and decide its future course of action afterreviewing the implementation of the agreement. The SFI leaders said that a written agreement has beensigned and time frame has been set for implementing variousclauses of the agreement and the ball is now in the Court ofthe University. PTI PCLRG
