Sanjib Datta has taken over as the Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Limited. Prior to this, he was the executive director (business development) at GAIL.
An electrical engineer from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Datta has 32 years’ of experience in the natural gas sector in diverse functions including business development, marketing, project development and construction as well as operation & maintenance of pipelines and LNG terminals.

In GAIL he was engaged in merger and acquisition initiatives as well as globalization and diversification efforts.
He has served on the boards of GAIL Global (USA) , a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL, TAPI Pipeline Company, National Gas Company and Fayum Gas. He has also been GAIL’s nominee Director on the Board of ONGC Petro-additions Limited.
