Rs 15 cr allocated to promote ‘Awesome Assam’ tourism brand

Guwahati, Sep 4 (PTI) The Assam government has allocatedRs 15 crore to promote tourism in the state under ‘AwesomeAssam’ brand. "Tourism will be promoted as ‘Awesome Assam’ with Rs 15crore allocated for publicity focusing on the one-hornedrhino, Assam Tea and the mighty Brahmaputra," state tourism,health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said heretoday. Launching a new logo of Assam Tourism, he said aggressivepublicity will be carried out outside the state with asingle-window clearance policy being initiated for issuingpermission to shoot films here. There is also a huge potential to attract tourists toKamakhya Temple and Majuli river island and the government hassanctioned Rs 33 crore for the development of infrastructureof Kamakhya, the minister said. Under ‘Swadesh Darshan’ scheme, the Centre has allocatedRs 120 crore for the five national parks in the state. PSUslike ONGC, OIL, NHPC and others have also expressed interestto put their money in tourism sector as part of theirCorporate Social Responsibility, Sarma said. The tourism sector will be developed through partnershipwith the people and any idea or plan for the development ofthis sector can be sent to the department, he added. PTI DG NNNSD
