New Delhi: Pre-Packaged consumables and food items to have an addition of 5% GST from today.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs on Sunday passed an order to hike GST by 5% on pre-packed consumable goods weighing up to 25 kgs.
The pre-packed consumable items include curd, wheat, rice, flour, meat, fish, lassi, buttermilk, paneer, and several other goods which are labelled with specific weights.
What Gets Costlier?
• Pre-packed Items such as Curd, Paneer, wheat, rice, buttermilk, lassi, meat, and such daily needs consumable goods got costlier after the tax was levied.
• Items such as LED lamps, LED lights and fixtures will also witness a price hike of 6% after the council urged for a correction in the inverted duty structure from 12% to 18%.
• Hospital room exceeding Rs 5000 per day. ICUs are exempted from the tax.
• 12% GST was raised to 18% which will be charged by the bank in the fees inclusive for the issue of cheques.
What Gets Cheaper?
• Goods relating to the defence which is imported by private organizations and vendors are exempt from the tax.
• Transport of goods and passengers by the means of ropeway saw an exemption of 13% which was earlier 18% and now it’s moved down to 5%.
• Renting of transportation method of goods that includes fuel to operate and an operator will now collect 12% GST which was earlier 18%.
Granting an exception to the consumers, the Government decided not to charge any GST on the pre-packed products weighing above 25 kgs or 25 litres.
Also, products which are packaged for Industrial consumption or institutional consumption are exempted from the tax.
