Relations with Ind top priority: Cameron

Brisbane: British Prime Minister David Cameron, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in Brisbane on Friday, said relations with New Delhi are a top foreign policy priority for his country.

In Modi’s second engagement of the day after arriving in Brisbane, Modi met an EU delegation headed by Rompuy who conveyed that the 28-nation bloc is keen to “re-engage” with India in all areas, especially trade.

Cameron, who is meeting the Indian prime minister for the first time, told him that relations with India are at the “top of the priorities of UK’s foreign policy”, according to tweets posted by the ministry of external affairs.

“Relations with India are at the top of the priorites of UK’s foreign policy —@David_Cameron to PM @narendramodi,” MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.

“Your’s is a very inspiring vision, UK wants to partner in any way we can — PM @David_Cameron to PM @narendramodi,” he added in his tweet.

Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in Brisbane to attend the G—20 Summit, earlier in the day visited the Queensland University of Technology. 

After attending the G-20 Summit in Brisbane, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to Sydney, where he will attend a community reception and address the Indian Diaspora.

The Prime Minister will then travel to Canberra and address the special joint sitting of the Australian Parliament on November 18. He is also to address a community event in Melbourne before travelling to Fiji.
