New Delhi: Misinformation spreading through social media is nothing new to the world. Multiple Facebook pages are spreading unverified information on social media and as a result, commoners are influenced.

In a similar case, a Facebook post started to trend which alleged BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra of raping a patient.

The Post read:

मरीज़ महिला के साथ बलात्कार करने पर एक डॉक्टर का लाइसेंस रद्द हो गया। अब वह दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी पार्टी का राष्ट्रीय प्रवक्ता है #पात्रा (A doctor’s license was revoked after he raped a woman. Today, he is the national spokesperson of the biggest party in the world. #Patra- translated)

A Facebook page I Support Ravish Kumar with a following of over 1 million users posted the above picture on June 26. At the time of the filing of this report, the post had already been shared 14,000 times.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile tried to verify the above claims, there was no report anywhere which alleged BJP Spokesperson of rape.

NewsMobile then contacted Sambit Patra who rubbished allegations saying: “I don’t even consider it as an allegation as it is just a random Facebook post and I’m going to file a defamation case against any verified Twitter handle who’ll make this allegation.”
