President Trump cancels visit to WW1 memorial due to ‘bad weather’

Date:

President Donald Trump on called off his visit to First World War cemetery because of the bad weather, the White House informed on Saturday.

The president and his wife Melania were set to visit Aisne-Marne American cemetery, in the village of Belleau, about 85 km (50 miles) east of Paris.

A US delegation led by Chief of Staff General John Kelly and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joe Dunford will visit the cemetery instead, said the white house. “(Their attendance) has been cancelled due to scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather,” the White House statement said.

the last minute cancellation drew a huge amount of criticism. The grandson of Winston Churchill, Nicholas Soames, took to Twitter to condemn Trump’s action.

” They died with their face to the foe and that pathetic inadequate @realDonaldTrump couldn’t even defy the weather to pay his respects to The Fallen,” he tweeted.

Aisne-Marne American cemetery is the battle site of 1918 World War 1. More than 1,800 Americans soldiers lost their there. The cemetery has a total of 2,288 gravesites honouring the bravehearts who died in World War 1
