New Delhi: In a first-ever largest action, a joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and state police forces have arrested over 100 Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders by raiding a total of 93 different locations including 15 states on Thursday.
Several leaders were detained and produced in front of Delhi’s Patiala High Court where the court has sent 18 accused allegedly related to PFI for a four-day remand to NIA.
According to sources close to newswire agency ANI, “NIA today conducted raids on PFI at 93 locations in 15 states -Kerala (39), Tamil Nadu (16), Karnataka (12), Andhra Pradesh (7), Telangana (1), UP (2), Rajasthan (4), Delhi (2), Assam (1), MP (1), Maharashtra (4) Goa (1), West Bengal (1), Bihar (1) and Manipur (1).”
The report further added that NIA has arrested a total of 45 people in connection with five different cases from different locations.
NIA further alleged that “These arrested PFI leaders and cadres are involved in funding terrorism and terrorist activities, providing armed training, radicalising people to join proscribed organisations.” The operation involved more than 300 officers under the supervision of the NIA DG.
