New Delhi: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman married his long-time boyfriend, Oliver Mulherin, in a small beachside ceremony with close loved ones and palm trees. Social media is abuzz with images from the wedding ceremony, and ironically, speculation on whether this is an AI-generated image is circulating. However, Altman confirmed to NBC News that he is indeed married.
Oliver Mulherin also confirmed the news through an Instagram post with the caption, “married my best friend and love of my life.” The screenshot of the post was shared by the Free Press Journal.
Many on social media are now curious about Oliver Mulherin, especially because Altman and Mulherin have not been very open about their relationship. In an interview with New York Magazine in September 2023, Sam Altman mentioned that he and Mulherin would like to have kids soon.
Despite keeping their relationship largely private, Altman and Mulherin attended the state dinner at the White House hosted by US President Joe Biden when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the country.
From what his LinkedIn profile reveals, Oliver Mulherin is an Australian software engineer who worked with Meta from August 2020 to November 2022.
Just last November, Sam Altman was fired from OpenAI, causing agitation among employees. In response, employees threatened to resign and switch to Microsoft unless Altman was reinstated. Eventually, Altman regained the CEO position, implementing significant restructuring by dismissing all former board members to establish a new board.
Altman, known for introducing ChatGPT, played a crucial role in advancing AI research and development, bringing in major investments amounting to billions. In 2015, Altman, along with tech billionaires like Elon Musk, started OpenAI as a nonprofit organization. As CEO, Altman has guided OpenAI to become one of the most well-known startups worldwide.
