Help is finally on way for Indian students stranded in Kazakhstan after Kazakh Ambassador to India Yerlan Alimbayev, in an exclusive interview with NewsMobile Editor-in-Chief Saurabh Shukla, assured all assistance to these students.

Following the airing of the interview, it is now learnt that the Indian embassy in Nursultan and other NRIs have reached out to these students and are trying to help them.

Daniel George, an MNC executive, described the situation as “under control” for now. He said that along with the Embassy of India, he is in the process of arranging food for the stranded Indians and making all possible alternate arrangements till the Kazakh government relaxes the quarantine conditions and these students can return to their hostels.

George, in fact, said he has negotiated with one of the hotels in Almaty and they have agreed to accommodate these stranded students and provide them with three meals in a day.

He added that the Embassy of India will be picking up all expenses related to accommodation and food of the students concerned.

Faiz, one of the fifth year medical students confirmed that these students had reached the Almaty airport in the hopes of catching a flight back to India, before the travel ban came into effect. Their hostels too then shut down leaving them stranded. These students were from Universities outside the city of Almaty. He confirmed that the Embassy has made alternate hotel stay arrangements for the students.

Earlier, Ambassador Alimbayev had told NewsMobile that around 90 Indian students were being provided food and accommodation in Almaty by the Embassy of India and Consulate General of India in Almaty.

These students are mostly enrolled in courses related to medicine in the various universities of Kazakhstan.

The Ambassador also said that the civil aviation authorities from both the nations are working closely towards repatriating the students back to their respective country.

He also expressed confidence that India and Kazakhstan can work together to defeat the effects of Covid-19.
