NDMC announces increase in water tariff

New Delhi: Those residing or running commercial establishments in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas will now have to shell out more money to avail water facility, with the civic body deciding to raise the tariff.

The revised tariff will come into force with effect from September 1 and will be reflected in the bills issued in the month of October onward.

“We have revised the water tariff in three categories – domestic, mixed use and commercial. The consumers of domestic category will also pay the sewerage maintenance charge 60% of water volumetric charge,” NDMC spokesperson Jagjivan Bakshi said.

“The commercial category consumers will also pay the sewerage maintenance charge, which is 60 per cent of water consumption charge.

“Users from all the three categories will also have to pay the water cess charges at the rate of 2 paise per kilolitre and late payment surcharge will be 5% of the total bill,” he added.

The decision regarding the revision was taken during a Council meeting in July and the same was notified on Tuesday.

As per the revised tariffs, the volumetric charge per kilolitre (KL) for 0-10 KL is Rs 2, Rs 2.50 for 10-20 KL and Rs 8 for 20-30 KL.

Users were charged Rs 12 and Rs 15 per kilolitre for 30-40 KL and >40 KL of water.

For the 0-10 KL and 10-20 KL slabs, charges have been increased by around Rs 1.50 from the existing Rs 13.31 and Rs 26.62.

Users in the >100 KL slab will have to pay over Rs 146 instead of the current Rs 133.10.
