Munger police’s ‘Gandhigiri’ for 2-wheeler riders sans helmets

Munger (Bihar), Aug 18 (PTI) Police in Bihar’s Mungerdistrict took to ‘Gandhigiri’ by tying rakhi to those founddriving two-wheelers without helmets on the occasion of’Raksha Bandhan’ today. District SP Asish Bharti along with his wife SwapnaMeshram, who is Rail SP of Jamalpur, caught 101 bikerswithout helmets and tied rakhi on their wrists. He said no fine would be imposed on those riding without ahelmet and they were asked not to violate traffic rules fromtomorrow. Bharti told them about the utility of helmet as a safetymeasure and urged them politely to use it as a safe guard. Meshram offered roses after tying rakhi to the offendersand urged them to wear helmet for a safe journey. Following the SP’s move, police tied rakhis to morethan 1400 two-wheeler riders without a helmet. Officials of Jamalpur police station area also offeredsweets to the violators and made them aware about theimportance of wearing a helmet. PTI CORR SNS KKASV
