Miscreants attempt to desecrate Ambedkar’s statue, one held

Sagar (MP), Aug 27 (PTI) Tension gripped Khurai town,the constituency of Madhya Pradesh Home Minister BhupendraSingh in the district, last night when unidentified personsallegedly tried to desecrate a statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar. In the aftermath of the incident, the SP today removedthe Khurai police station in-charge and suspended threepolicemen, including an ASI, on Singh’s directives, a seniorpolice official said. The incident took place last night when the miscreantsallegedly tried to desecrate the statue following whichAmbedkar’s followers staged a road blockade in the area,demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, officials said. SP Sachin Atulkar told PTI that one Sujeet Dikshit hasbeen arrested in connection with the incident and a caseregistered. The Home Minister issued a statement stating that theBJP government holds Ambedkar in high esteem and announced acash reward of Rs one lakh for those who provide informationabout those involved in the incident. He also said Rs 16 lakh was being allocated forbeautification and renovation of Ambedkar Square. Singh was in Mumbai last night for his son’s medicaltreatment.
