The ministry of Defence official website was hacked on Friday, with reports saying Chinese characters were appearing on the page.
“The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later” was the message being flashed on the home page. Apart from which Chinese characters were appearing on top left corner of the website mod.gov.in .
Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted that the website shall be restored and any such activity in the future shall me prevented.

However later, according to National Informatics Centre (NIC) Ministry of Defence website was not hacked and was facing some some hardware related technical issue since 2:30 PM. The Chinese character displayed on the screen was Drupal and HTML5 starting theme’s default logo which lead to speculations of being hacked by a foreign body.
