MGNREGA payment norms relaxed in Arunachal

Itanagar, Sep 14 (PTI) As an interim arrangement, theUnion Rural Development Ministry has relaxed norms forArunachal Pradesh in regard to payment of wages and non-wagesunder the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment GenerationAct. After the state government’s request, the ministryrelaxed the norms for payment of wages and non-wages underMGNREGA through bank and post office accounts to the wageearners where outreach bank and postal service is inadequate,state RD Commissioner Indra Mallo said in a release heretoday. "The payment of wages and non-wages under MGNREGA tothe job card holders can be made in cash by consideringconstituting a payment committee (PC) at each gram panchayat,"he said. The payment committee should comprise of grampanchayat president and chairman, gram panchayat member ofconcerned villages, two women self help group members whereveravailable, traditional tribal head gaon burahs, minimum threeMGNREGA workers, including a woman member of the concernedgram panchayat. Videography of the cash payment proceedings shouldalso be made, Mallo said. The district DC should constitute the paymentcommittee, she said adding, arrangement for cash payment tothe job card holders is an interim arrangement till properbanking and postal arrangement are established.
