Manipur: 9 Dead As School Bus Overturns; PM Announces Rs 2 Lakhs Ex-Gratia

Noney: At least nine people died after a school bus overturned in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday.

The accident occurred when the bus was trying to make a sharp turn on Old Cachar Road in the mountainous district. The students were going for a study tour.

Reportedly, 40 others were injured in the accident.

Earlier in the day, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the students at the hospital in Imphal.

The CM conveyed condolences and announced to give an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to the next of kin of victims. The CM also requested schools and colleges to not do any movement in the early morning & late evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the death of students and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs to the next kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the bus accident is to be given from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
