LSR girl wins G-20 honour

Date:

New Delhi: Vandinika Shukla of Lady Shri Ram College will fly to Brisbane for the G(irls)20 Summit August 24-26, as the sole representative of India. She will be part of a 20-member team to design the road map to economically advance women across the world and present it to the G20 leaders for execution in November.

The G(irls)20 Summit focuses on the significant role women can play in improving the lot of the community. Designed as per G20 Architecture, it brings together delegates from G20 countries, along with a representative from the European and African Unions, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the MENA region.

Vandinika is the first woman to be chosen from Delhi to represent India in debating and designing solutions with 19 other women from G20 countries. A history student, she is currently heading ‘Project Enable’ at the Becoming I Foundation (an initiative of the G20 2010 Indian delegate). “I first read about the summit on social media and it got me interested. I have been working with schools for the implantation of the Right to Education Act,” said Vandinika.

She has launched her own organisation, ‘Ensemble’, which promotes better practices in music appreciation among youth. Ensemble envisions economic empowerment of underprivileged girls by combining education and technology.
