California: Recently turned fathers have a bone to pick with local civic bodies regarding gender stereotyping that pigeonholes parents and puts them in a fix.
Actor and father to a five-month-old Wyatt Isabelle, Ashton Kutcher wrote about his problems with the absence of diaper changing areas in restrooms in public places.
Lamenting on the absence of any such facilities in public restrooms, Kutcher wrote:”There are NEVER diaper changing stations in mens public restrooms. The first public men’s room that I go into that has one gets a free shout out on my FB page! ‪#‎BeTheChange‬”.
Kutcher joined a league of bloggers and journalists who have repeatedly wrote about the problem and have urged civic bodies to provide such facilities for working fathers.
A blogger who runs a column called Daddy Doin’ Work shared his experiences earlier though he was not successful in changing the opinion of the local administration.
Kutcher, like the blogger, lives in Los Angeles whose Governor vetoed a bill that mandated the availability of diaper changing tables in common public restrooms and newly constructed buildings after it got bipartisan support in the state assembly.
Even though California Governor Jerry Brown vetoed this move, people like Kutcher and the blogger have not lost hope and encourage people, especially celebrity parents, to diminish the potty parity between men and women and spread the word so that it becomes a reality.
