King Charles III Formally Declared Britain’s Monarch

Date:

London: King Charles III was officially proclaimed as Britain’s new monarch on Saturday at the St. James Palace.

The proclamation was first declared in the presence of the Accession Council, a group consisting of members of the Royal Family, the prime minister and other senior politicians.

The event marks the presence of former PMs including Boris Johnson, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, and Theresa May.

King Charles III while addressing the Accession Council added that “It is my sorrowful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved mother, the Queen. I know how deeply you sympathize with me in the irreparable loss we have all suffered.”

He further added that  “I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of Sovereignty which have now passed to me. In taking up these responsibilities, I shall strive to follow the inspiring example I have been set in upholding constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these Islands and of the Commonwealth Realms and Territories throughout the world,”.

During the event, King Charles also took the oath to protect the Church of Scotland during his reign.

Earlier on Friday, King Charles III in a tribute to his mother Queen Elizabeth II added that “to my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late papa. I want to simply say this, thank you.”

For the first time in history, the ceremony is being televised live. Queen Consort Camilla, Prince of Wales William were also present in the ceremony.
